A trip back in time, pickled eggs & Indian cuisine!

Know what's cool about the UK? Booze is sold in corner stores, it's cold, cheap and available 24 hours. Now onto the adventure! (plus Colin wanted you to know the page 3 girl doesn't wear a bra or top)

Colin & Maria were picked up in Darlington by Maria's friend Carolyn & her little man, 2 year old William. Today's adventure was a trip to Beamish Historical Museum, the Living Museum of the North, about a 25 minute drive.

Beamish is just like Kings Landing in New Brunswick, but more modern & a bit bigger. It has an old skool bus system & a tramway that you can ride!

Their first encounter was down a former coal mine shaft! The height of the ceiling at places was only 4ft.

(Sorry it's sideways, not sure why it's doing that)

This is returning from deep inside the mine! Are you claustrophobic?

Then it was off to the turn of the 19th century school...

Where Colin had to sit at the back of the room for having poor handwriting, as evident from the photo above.

After touring around, they had a picnic in the city center with Carolyn's husband Kris joining them.

After which Maria challenged William to a game of Roll Down the hill, Maria might have won, but William had more fun!

Then Kris took Colin to the Sun Inn for a pint.

It was a micro beer, brewed especially for this museum. Beamish Hall Best Bitter, it was really good! Not to strong, not too light. What was really great was being able to take it back to the picnic to drink in the sun, and on the grass. Other people must have been thirsty, because when they saw the beer Colin & Kris had, they went to the pub to get one as well.

And Colin's first pickled egg...

Then it was off to the dentist office, if you don't like the dentist now, be glad it wasn't back then! Most people had their teeth pulled by age 21 and they only used pliers! This is a drill from the 1900's.. It took a dentist 45 minutes to drill your tooth, with no pain killer..

Hey! Let's catch a ride on the still working steam locomotive, the London North East Railroad, for a ride around town! This area is also known for having this first steam locomotive.

After a long day of touring around and fairly sunburnt and exhausted, it was back to Darlington with a Newcastle Brown Ale for Colin and a Fizz Cider for Maria, that's her in the background serving up a kebab, which is like a donair back home and buttered chicken, both freshly made from the Indian take away shop.

Tomorrow, our crew conquers York! Tonight it's Coronation Street (which is 9 months ahead in the UK) & a round at the pubs in Darlington.

  1. I've seen that handwriting. Perhaps you got a good thrashing??

Seems to be the UK beer tour...and perhaps a load of fun!
